Estimator
Job Summary
Washington Woodworking is seeking a Millwork Estimator to join our team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with expertise in estimating high-end architectural millwork. As an Estimator, you will be responsible for thoroughly reviewing project plans and specifications, accurately scoping work, and collaborating with project managers, shop personnel, and clients to ensure successful project execution.
This position offers the unique opportunity to work remotely with minimal supervision while contributing to the continuous improvement of our estimating processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead assigned estimates by thoroughly reviewing plans and specifications, including Divisions 1 and 6, as well as related materials such as stone, solid surfaces, and metals.
- Participate in project post-mortems, analyzing variances between estimated and actual costs to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Understand and review project drawings in detail before each submission to ensure the estimate is complete, aligns with the scope, and accounts for any ambiguous specifications.
- Clearly document and communicate scope assumptions so that Project Managers understand pricing methodologies and estimate breakdowns.
- Utilize estimating software and tools effectively to improve accuracy and efficiency, while contributing to process enhancements.
- Engage with Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle to provide support, update estimates, and assist with change order pricing or clarifications.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by proactively engaging with estimators and Preconstruction teams, making phone calls to clarify scope, and presenting proposals rather than solely submitting via email.
- Identify and present cost-saving opportunities in materials and labor as part of project proposals.
- Collaborate with the operations, field installation, and drafting teams to validate labor and material estimates, particularly for large or complex projects exceeding $1M.
- Work independently and remotely while maintaining clear communication with supervisors and demonstrating accountability in all assigned tasks.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in millwork estimating, construction estimating, or a related field.
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Excel for cost calculations and proposals.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with internal teams and clients effectively.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with the executive and operations teams.
