Millwork Drafter
Job Summary
Washington Woodworking Company is seeking a Millwork Drafter to join our team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who can interpret architectural drawings, produce accurate shop drawings, and collaborate with project managers and shop personnel to ensure seamless execution.
The Millwork Drafter will be responsible for preparing detailed technical drawings using AutoCAD, Microvellum, or similar software, ensuring compliance with industry and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret Architectural Plans – Read and understand blueprints, sketches, and specifications to produce precise shop drawings for custom millwork and casework.
- Create Shop Drawings – Develop and prepare detailed, fabrication-ready drawings that align with design intent and manufacturing standards.
- Utilize CAD Software – Proficiently use AutoCAD, Microvellum, or equivalent tools to draft and modify drawings.
- Collaborate with Teams – Work closely with project managers, engineers, and shop personnel to ensure design feasibility and accuracy.
- Ensure Accuracy & Detail – Maintain meticulous attention to detail, ensuring all drawings meet company and industry standards.
- Provide Construction Documentation – Prepare cut lists, bills of materials (BOMs), and other documentation for manufacturing, machining, and assembly operations.
- Prepare Approval Drawings – Generate approval drawings to be reviewed and signed off by clients before production.
- Understand Industry Standards – Apply AWI standards and best practices in millwork and casework drafting.
- Communicate Effectively – Possess strong written and verbal communication skills for seamless collaboration with internal teams and clients.
Quality Control & Process Adherence
- Drafting Kick-Off Meeting – Collaborate with Project Managers (PMs) to identify discrepancies, missing details, and required resolutions before drafting begins.
- Submittal Package Compilation – Consolidate all drawings into a complete submittal package for client approval.
- Bluebeam Studio Project – Participate in Bluebeam Studio collaboration with PMs, drafters, and field teams for real-time updates.
- Field Dimension Updates – Revise drawings based on field measurements and redlines to maintain accuracy.
Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in CAD Software – Experience with AutoCAD, Microvellum, or equivalent drafting software is required.
- Technical Knowledge – Strong understanding of millwork construction techniques, materials, and industry best practices.
- Attention to Detail – Ability to spot and resolve potential design issues before production.
- Problem-Solving Skills – Capable of interpreting complex designs and translating them into accurate, buildable plans.
- Communication Skills – Effective collaboration with designers, engineers, PMs, and clients.
- Industry Experience – Background in millwork and casework drafting with knowledge of AWI standards preferred.
